5 Things I Appreciate about the USA

I am thankful for freedom and thankful that my passport country allows so much of it for me.

Yes, there are a lot of things to complain about, be concerned about, speak out about, and even regret when it comes to the United States of America. But on the other hand, having lived in six other countries in addition to my passport country, I can confidently say that I am still proud to be an American.

Perhaps that pride comes because I know that my eternal citizenship is under a KING who will never make a wrong choice and will always take care of HIS people. HE has freed me from eternal concerns. And because of HIM, I can walk in freedom even on this earth, regardless of what country I come from or live in.

Today is your birthday, USA.

I could write all about the reasons I am thankful that you are my passport country…but I think I would ramble a lot and spend too much effort explaining why or defending my reasons. This is supposed to be a short blog post.

So…here are 5 things I appreciate about the USA:

  1. The brave men and women, past and present, who give their lives to serve our country and defend our freedom.
  2. The fact that I don’t have to hide my Bible, worship Jesus in secret, or stop singing praise songs in public.
  3. As irritating as the news can be, journalists are not arrested or killed for what they write.
  4. We are all allowed to have an opinion.
  5. Dr Pepper (and free refills at most restaurants)

HAPPY JULY 4 TO ALL YOU AMERICANS OUT THERE!

I’M IN ASIA EATING NOODLES AT THE MOMENT, SO EAT A HOT DOG FOR ME!

Hi Jana! Just finished reading your book Door to Freedom while resting from a short term mission trip to Papua New Guinea. It was a wonderful story! I couldn’t put it down and really related after being out of USA for awhile. Our world needs Jesus and bless you courage and passion to live in Asia! Chloe Raitt

Thanks for this, Chloe! I am so glad you enjoyed the book and I hope you’ll share it 🙂 I hope your time in Papua New Guinea went well. I love hearing of others, far and near, who have a passion to share the Good News!
